Seismic Dance Event 4.0

November 16, 2021 by HRVST

Seismic Dance Event was an absolutely wild weekend. Real Music based out of Austin Texas has been throwing this festival for the past few years now, but this was the first one I’ve been fortunate to attend. This year featured the addition of a third stage which played host to some of my favorite acts of the weekend, Latmun and Wheats, Eli Brown, Mark Knight, Satori, and a plethora of other artists.

Riding the Wave

On Friday, Jamie Jones absolutely brought the vibes on the Tsunami stage. This stage featured a lot of blue and white tones in the production, really bringing the tsunami feel to the stage. My absolute favorite set this weekend on the Tsunami stage was Kyle Watson, one of the heads of house music label, Box of Cats.

Inside the Volcano

Inside The Concourse Project, techno reigned supreme with live performances and DJ sets ranging from the melodic side to unrelenting 909 bassline heavy tunes. Stephan Bodzin performed a live set that blew my mind. I recognized the sound of the Moog Subsequent 37 instantly and couldn’t get enough of it. Oliver Helden’s techno alias, Hi-Lo threw down, and the vibe he brought reminded me a lot of reese heavy tearout drum and bass and dubstep, but at 140bpm with a 4 to the floor kick.

The wildest moment inside on the Volcano stage was when we were dancing to Nina Kraviz while Mark Knight was a few feet to my right, and Eli Brown vibing out behind me.

I absolutely cannot wait for the next edition of Seismic Dance Event in November of 2022. Historically it’s been a spring and fall music festival, but I have no doubt that allowing for a full year of planning will undoubtedly see the 5th edition with an even bigger increase in production and execution.
