Just over a year ago I wrote this article about Trackstack and how it was the demo box of the future. A lot has changed for Trackstack in the past year since then and I figured it was about time to cover some of the updates. Some of the updates include being able to send messages along with the songs, a new feature that allows you to create spinning videos for social media, and other features we’ll touch on.
Sending Demo Tracks
Trackstack’s functionality for sending tunes to labels or DJ’s has recently changed. Previously, you could upload tunes and send them directly to a label. You didn’t have to think about a pitch email. It really felt like the music could speak for itself, however that is impersonal on a level. While this could be beneficial for an artist as it would let the music speak, if an A&R doesn’t recognize your name off the bat then they could be more likely to skip your song. Building a personal relationship with a label starts with your demo submissions, so I am glad that Trackstack has added the ability to include messages with your. track submissions.
Another new feature for sending demo tracks is the ability to browse inboxes and see what labels and artists are setup with inboxes to send tunes to. This is filterable by genre and includes all of the main dance music genres you would expect. There’s even filters for up and coming labels as well as new labels and artists that have joined Trackstack. Previously you had to know or be able to find the Trackstack URL each individual label or artist.
Another great feature they’ve added the last year is the Outbound view so that you can see what tunes you’ve sent to which labels and when, the status of the submission and when you submitted it.
Trackstack: Not Just For Demos
Trackstack is no longer just a place to send demos. Artists are able to receive promotional music. If you have music coming out on a record label, or want to get some unreleased tunes into a DJ’s hands to play out at festivals and raves this summer Trackstack can also be used for that. Be sure that you label it as a Promo and not a Demo though, and I would probably recommend not sending Promo’s to Label inboxes and only focus on Artist inboxes.
Trackstack Showcase
Sometimes record labels want to see crowd reactions to music or ensure that there is enough hype around a track. It’s an unfortunate state of the industry currently but Trackstack has made it easier than ever to generate content with your music for social media. Trackstack has added Showcase to their portfoilo, with one of the features allowing you to upload artwork and a song and download a spinniing disk video that contains the image and your music. While Klippr.video exists for the same purpose, it depends entirely on your music already being released on Beatport. Trackstack’s implementation allows you to upload any artwork and any song to get a video clip for sharing on social media.
In addition to the spinning video, Trackstack has an AI Mastering assistant. I have not used it, and cannot speak to its capabilities however I’m sure with a proper mixdown it can’t be that bad. In my opinion, no AI is going to ever be able to replace a set of trained human ears. You can try it out for free.
Desktop App & Final Thoughts
I was excited to see that there’s now a desktop app to enable easier access without having to open up your web browser that could lead to easy distractions. It seems to be an electron app that wraps around the website app, so the experience is exactly the same whether you’re on the web or in the app.I love to see Trackstack continuing to iterate and improve upon the platform I originally covered last year and truly look forward to their continued growth and success. If you’re an artist or label wanting to get demos and promos, check their pricing and sign up. If you’re an artist looking to send demos to labels without signing up for a paid account, I crafted a Google Search that finds all of the labels on Instagram that have demo box Links to Trackstack which you can navigate to here.
If you’ve got UKG, Dirty Chugger Tech House / Minimal promos drop them to my Trackstack. When you have demos you’d like to submit to my label, Slabbed Out Digital shoot them over at the label Trackstack submission page.
